Snoring treatment

My husband snores very loudly. Is there a way to cure snoring?

Snoring is a common problem and is said to occur in at least 30% of the population. More men snore than women. Snoring by itself is not a dangerous condition but in some cases, it may be associated with episodes whereby the breathing stops for a few seconds. These individuals often wake up feeling more tired and complain of poor sleep. In addition, they will also fell exhausted during the day. These features are typical of sleep apnea.

Other associated features of sleep apnea include high blood pressure, headaches, poor sleep pattern and restlessness at night. Often these people are obese and have certain variations in their facial anatomy, which contributes to snoring.

Sleep apnea needs to be treated. The first treatment of sleep apnea is with the use of CPAP device. There are countless oral appliances that can be inserted into the mouth or nose- the majority can be described as garbage. Surgery should be the last resort but the results are horrendous and complications are serious.

CPAP is perhaps the best treatment. Speak to your doctor about it. In the meantime, elevate the head of the bed during sleep, make sure your husband exercises regularly, eats a healthy diet and does not smoke.
