Weight gain and smoking

I have just quit smoking but have started to gain weight. Is there something I can do to prevent this?

Many people who quit smoking notice that they gain weight in the initial few months. Nicotine is a well known appetite suppressant and is also known to burn calories. So when you quit smoking, fewer calories are burnt and hence you gain weight. But this is preventable.

Start an exercise program. You do not have to run a marathon, even walking will do. The more you walk, the greater the number of calories you will burn. Eat right, avoid fatty and processed foods, eat small portions and limit the amount of alcohol. If you feel hungry, choose healthy snacks or fruits. Remember if you have quit smoking, then you definitely have the will power to control your diet. Good luck.
