What causes lupus?

Lupus is known as an autoimmune disorder- this means that the body’s immune system starts to attack the body' s own cells. Why the immune system turns crazy is not known but has been related to bad genes, environment, a virus or medications. In many cases, just bad luck is the answer to most disorders in medicine.

Lupus can be inherited but fortunately, not everyone in the family will develop the disorder. The immune system can attack almost any organ in the body and the most common are the joints, skin, brain, kidneys, heart, lungs and small blood vessels. Unfortunately, it is a very unpleasant disorder that is also very difficult to treat.
